You Wouldn’t Skip Getting Your Oil Changed…..Why Skip Cleaning Your Carpet?

Monday, February 6th, 2012

If it’s been over a year since you have had your carpets cleaned, then let me remind you of three important benefits to having your carpet and rugs cleaned every 6-12 months:

  1. Your carpet will stay beautiful. Regular cleaning prevents permanent staining and keeps traffic lanes looking great!
  2. Your carpet will last longer. Regular cleaning removes ground-in soils that destroy traffic lanes. Carpet makers recommend cleaning at least every 12-18 months to keep warranty void.
  3. Your home will be healthier. Your carpet is a fiber. It needs to be cleaned regularly to extract dander, dust pollen and bacteria that vacuuming doesn’t remove.

CARING FOR YOUR ORIENTAL & AREA RUGS

Thursday, September 29th, 2011

Rotate: Rotate rugs to even out any possible sun fading, and to also not allow one specific area to get all the foot traffic wear. Rotate small rugs every 3 – 6 months; larger rugs every time it gets cleaned or every 12 – 18 months, make sure it gets put back down the opposite directions.

Inspect: Quarterly you want to inspect your rugs closely for any insect activity. Moths and carpet beetles generally begin feasting in areas that have little light and little air-flow – this means they prefer the back of the rug, or areas of the rug that may be under furniture. The larva looks like “sticky lint”, so flip over the corners of the rug to see if you have any activity.

Never use Carpet Spot Removers or Baking Soda on your rugs. Folex® or Resolve® are meant for SYNTHETIC carpet, not wool or silk. These chemicals (even Woolite®) are too strong to use on rugs and they will either cause a chemical discoloration or it will bleach out the rug dyes completely. Baking soda also causes damage by yellowing the fibers. The damage is permanent and will devalue your rug.

Never put potted live plants, or plastic protectors, on top of your rugs.

Even careful plant caretakers spill a bit when watering plants. This water seeps into the cotton foundation which leads to mildew growth and dry rot. When dry rot sets in, eventually the rug falls apart in that area of rot. It ruins the rug.

Now You Can Face This Allergy Season With A Smile!

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

Hello friends and clients. It’s almost that time of year again….the birds will be singing, the sun will be shining, the flowers will be blooming, the eyes will be itching, the nose will be running…..aaaaahhhh allergy season is upon us.

But, before you pull out the box of tissues and allergy meds remember…..

There are proven things you can do to eliminate some allergens

at their source and reduce your allergies!!

A popular website had this to say on the subject, “Why people develop allergies remains a mystery in the medical community. Until we know more about allergies the best line of defense is to eliminate the offending agents.” - peacefulmind.com

Then it goes on to list some of the “offending agents” several of which are found in most homes today: dust mites, pollens and mold. We all know what mold is and mold spores can even be found in your carpets. And we all know what pollens are and that they can come in through open doors and windows (even be tracked in) and settle in your home and carpets. But in case you don’t know what a dust mite is, they are microscopic little creatures (bug like) that wander in your fabrics and carpets. The living mites are not the offenders, it’s their fecal matter and the bodies of dead mites that most people are allergic to. (I know I’m gorssed out too!) That means…..

There are many allergy offenders living in your own home!

So far I haven’t given you much to smile about have I?

Well you can face the allergy season with a smile if you take a proactive approach to the season. Don’t let allergens in your own home irritate your allergies that may already be flared up by the hay fever of Springtime. Get your carpets cleaned properly and professionally and you will eliminate the pollens, molds and dust mite matter that can make your allergies go from bad to worse.

The EPA has this advice, “Keep the house clean. House dust mites, pollens, animal dander, and other allergy-causing agents can be reduced….through regular cleaning.”

So smile, you can reduce your allergies by removing common allergens at the source. Remember, your carpet is like a big “filter” that traps pollutants and allergens. But that “filter” gets full and redistributes allergens back into the air with every step you take. If it’s been more than 6-12 months since you had your carpets cleaned your “filter” (carpet) is probably full. If you want to take steps toward reducing allergens found in your home then pick up the phone and call us (706) 769-1444 right now.

How Often Should I Clean My Carpets, Rugs and Floors?

Monday, February 21st, 2011

(Without over-wetting or leaving a sticky residue behind)

Have you ever wondered if you are cleaning your floors and fabrics enough? Or too much? Are there frequency guidelines for professional cleaning? If so, where do you find them? Surely you have heard Wait as long as you can before you clean your carpet… or Once youve cleaned your carpet, its never the same….

These widely used comments have stemmed from unfortunate encounters with uninformed cleaners that have left the carpet with an overload of detergent residue. The consumer has assumed that this is the case with all carpet cleaning and resolved to wait until the carpet is in dire straights to clean it.

The good news is that a properly cleaned carpet will not re-soil as quickly and will actually last longer. Why? Because damaging soils are removed with effective cleaning. Soil that is not removed by vacuuming, even though it can rarely be seen by the naked eye, cuts and slices on the carpet fibers as the carpet is being walked on breaking down the carpet yarns in the traffic areas. The result is that even with restorative cleaning at that point, it will not correct the damage that has been done to the fiber.

Fiber producers and carpet manufacturers recommend that a residential carpet should be professionally cleaned at least 18 to 24 months for best performance, more often in heavily trafficked and heavy soiling situations.

A Clean Carpet is a Healthy Carpet

Not to mention that a carpet that is not cleaned on a regular basis is an unhealthy carpet. Carpet is like a sink. It collects soils, pollens, insecticides, exhaust, etc. that gets tracked in or blown in from the polluted outdoors. This creates an unhealthy indoor environment.

What About My Hard Surface Floors and Rugs?

Hard surface floors can also be permanently damaged by not being professionally cleaned on a regular basis. For example, hardwood floors get deep scratch patterns. The grout on stone and tile floors isnt sealed or the sealer has been affected by household cleaners and no longer repels the soil and spillage. Also, the grout is a valley that the soil gets mopped into on a daily basis.

And finally, a 9 x 12 Oriental Rug can hold up to 87 pounds of soil without looking dirty! This was demonstrated by a study done by the Eureka Vacuum Cleaner Company. So, get your rugs cleaned about once a year as well, including removing the dry soil.

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

This is the time of the year most people spend getting ready to give thanks. The season is usually spent hanging out with friends and family. Celebrating family traditions. Having parties. Enjoying delicious foods.

We all count our blessings (hopefully everyday) whether it’s being thankful for our health, our daily food, or our families. But how about being thankful for having clean carpets? Here are 3 reasons to be thankful for those clean carpets this holiday season:

Reason #1 to be thankful for clean carpet: They look beautiful for all our family, friends and guests. Just imagine welcoming all your holiday company with bright, soft, fluffy, clean carpets. Everyone will “Oooh!” and “Awww” over your wonderful housekeeping abilites - you’re a regular Martha Stuart aren’t you?

Reason #2 to be thankful for clean carpet: You know they will last longer when you maintain them properly. New carpet is quite an investment. Who wants to replace carpet before it’s time? When you follow your manufacture’s advice and have them professionally cleaned every 6-12 months you know they will look beautiful and last for years.

Reason #3 to be thankful for clean carpet: You and your family will breathe easier this winter. With winter time comes lots of time indoors in a house that’s sealed up tight. when you clean your carpets you clean your indoor air. A clean home really is a healthy home!

You have lots of reasons to be thankful - and so do I. In fact, I want you to know …….

WE ARE THANKFUL FOR YOU!
